Do I need to replace the whole control arm or just the bush?

Accepted Answer

Depends on the car. On some BMW / Mercedes / Audi chassis the bush is serviceable separately (you press out the old bush, press in the new one). On many VW Group cars the bush is integral to the arm and the complete arm is replaced. Share your VIN — we will tell you what is serviceable individually and what needs a complete arm.

What information do I need to share to get the right Lemförder suspension parts?

We need: (1) Make, Model and Year, and (2) the VIN / Chassis Number of your car (17 characters, found on the windshield base, driver-side door jamb or in the RC book). We do not dispatch any suspension part without first verifying the chassis number against the catalogue — variants of the same model often use different shock part numbers, and lower arms can change between facelifts. If you also know the OE part number printed on the old shock body, control arm or strut top-mount, or you can WhatsApp a clear photo of the worn part, it speeds up cross-checking. The only situation where a return is not accepted is if the chassis / engine number itself was given incorrectly at the time of order — please double-check it from your RC book before confirming.

Where is Lemförder actually manufactured — is it the same as the European original?

Accepted Answer

Most global suspension majors run plants in several countries (Germany, France, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Turkey, China, Thailand, India, Mexico and Brazil) to supply car makers worldwide. The same brand box, for the same part number, can therefore be produced at different Lemförder plants depending on the SKU and production year. The shock damping curve, bush durometer and metallurgy remain the brand's global specification. When we quote you, we share the exact part number and — on request — the country-of-origin printed on the box for that particular SKU.

Fast-moving Lemförder shocks, struts, control arms, links and bushes for popular cars are stocked in our Bangalore warehouses. Orders confirmed (chassis number verified, quote accepted and payment received/verified) on or before 4 PM, Monday to Saturday, are delivered the same day in 2–4 hours within Bangalore. SKUs not in local stock are sourced from outstation warehouses and typically take 1–7 working days, depending on courier transit and courier holidays.

Should I replace shocks in pairs or all four together?

Always replace shocks in pairs — both fronts together, or both rears together — so that damping is balanced left-to-right. You do not have to replace all four at once unless all four are worn or leaking; many owners do front and rear at different intervals because front shocks (especially on Indian roads) wear faster.

What are the early warning signs of a worn shock absorber?

The classic signs are: nose-dive under hard braking, rear squat under acceleration, body roll in corners, knocking/clunking over speed-breakers, oily film on the shock body (a leaking shock), uneven tyre wear (cupping or scalloping), and longer braking distance. On Indian roads, rear shocks on hatchbacks and SUVs typically need attention between 60–80k km; on European cars, fronts often go before rears because of the heavier engine and harder driving.

What is the difference between a shock absorber, a strut and a coil-over?

Accepted Answer

A shock absorber damps the spring — it controls how fast the spring compresses and rebounds. A strut is a structural part of the suspension (it holds the wheel in alignment) AND has a shock absorber inside it. Most modern front suspensions use struts (MacPherson). A coil-over is an adjustable shock with the coil spring mounted around it as a single assembly — used on performance cars and aftermarket lowering setups.

OE vs OES vs aftermarket suspension — what is the real difference?

OE = the part number from the car maker (Mercedes / VW / Maruti). OES = the same part, made by the same factory (e.g. Sachs makes the OE shock for Mercedes), but sold in the supplier's box at a lower price. Aftermarket = a different manufacturer's equivalent (Monroe, KYB, Bilstein etc.) — usually meeting the same spec, sometimes upgraded. For most owners, OES is the sweet spot: factory quality, 25–40% less than the dealer price.

Are lowering springs (Eibach / Tein) road-legal in India?

Accepted Answer

There is no specific Indian regulation banning aftermarket springs, but ride-height changes can attract scrutiny under CMVR Section 52 (no structural modification) and may affect insurance claims if not disclosed. Practically, mild lowering springs (10–30 mm drop) on enthusiast cars (Polo GT, Slavia, City, Civic) are common and rarely flagged. Heavy drops (50 mm+), full coil-overs or stance setups can attract issues during fitness checks. Always disclose modifications to your insurer.

Should I replace bushes when I replace the control arm?

Accepted Answer

On most modern cars the control arm is sold with the bushes already pressed in — replacing the arm replaces the bushes. On some cars (and most premium European cars) the arm and bush are sold separately and you can replace just the bush — cheaper if the arm itself is in good shape. On VW / Skoda / BMW / Mercedes especially, "ball-joint only", "bush only" and "complete arm" options exist; we will quote whichever is right for your chassis number.
