Will Textar Ceramic / low-dust pads stop the black brake dust on my alloys?

Yes — Textar offers low-dust and ceramic-blend friction options on most German-car fitments. Owners usually see a clear reduction in wheel dust within a few hundred kilometres of bedding-in. Note that no pad is zero-dust; if your alloys turn black very quickly, it is usually the original semi-metallic OE pad doing its job, and switching to Textar low-dust solves the issue without losing bite.

Are Textar discs (rotors) coated, and do I really need coated discs in Bangalore?

Textar's passenger-car discs are largely UV / Geomet coated on the hat and edges. In Bangalore's monsoon humidity, coated discs are well worth it — they stop the cosmetic rust that forms on the hub-face and edge within days of an uncoated disc going on. We need: (1) Make, Model and Year, and (2) the VIN / Chassis Number of your car (17 characters, found on the windshield base, driver-side door jamb or in the RC book). We do not dispatch any brake part without first verifying the chassis number against the catalogue — this is how we make sure the part that leaves our warehouse is the correct one for your car. If you also know the OE part number on the old pad/disc, or can send a clear photo of the existing brake pad, disc edge and caliper, it helps us cross-check even faster. The only situation where a return is not accepted is if the chassis / engine number itself was given incorrectly at the time of order, so please double-check it from your RC book before confirming.

A clear WhatsApp photo of the worn pad (showing the back-plate part number), the disc edge (showing diameter and any markings) and the caliper helps us match the exact OE fitment quickly — especially useful for facelift variants and imported cars where the chassis number alone can map to multiple part numbers.

Where is Textar actually manufactured — is it the same as the European original?

Most global brake majors run plants in several countries (for example Italy, Germany, the UK, Poland, the Czech Republic, China, Thailand, India, Mexico and Brazil) to supply car makers worldwide. The same brand box, for the same part number, can therefore be produced at different Textar plants depending on the SKU and production year. The friction formula, tooling and quality standard remain the brand's global specification (and ECE R90 approved where applicable). When we quote you, we share the exact part number and — on request — the country-of-origin printed on the box for that particular SKU.

What is the difference between ceramic, semi-metallic and organic brake pads?

Ceramic pads use ceramic fibres with small amounts of metal — they run quietly, produce very little dust and are kind to alloy wheels, which is why they are popular on premium cars. Semi-metallic pads (NAO/low-met) use steel/iron fibres and bite harder when cold, but produce more dust and a little more noise. Organic / NAO pads are made from non-metallic fibres bonded with resin — softest pedal feel and quietest, but wear faster under heavy use. The right choice depends on your car, driving style and wheel finish.

What is a single-compound vs multi-compound (multi-layer) brake pad?

A single-compound pad uses one friction material from the back-plate to the contact face. A multi-compound pad has an underlayer (between the back-plate and the friction material) that improves heat handling, reduces noise and protects the back-plate — common on European OE pads from ATE, Textar, Brembo and others. For high-performance use, brands like EBC and Brembo also offer pads with different compounds front vs rear, or different compounds for street vs track.

Yes — for cars originally fitted with carbon-ceramic discs (Porsche PCCB, Mercedes-AMG Carbon Ceramic, BMW M Carbon Ceramic, Audi RS Ceramic, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren), we can source genuine OE replacement discs and matching pads on indent. Carbon-ceramic discs are very expensive and have specific bedding-in and pad-pairing requirements — share your VIN and we will quote the exact OE part numbers.

What is the difference between drilled, slotted and plain brake discs?

Plain (smooth) discs are the OE choice for most cars — quietest, best pad life, lowest cost. Slotted discs have machined grooves that sweep gas, dust and water off the pad face — better wet bite and consistent feel under hard use, common on sport cars. Drilled discs add cross-drilled holes for cooling and looks but can be prone to micro-cracks under track abuse — best as a premium street upgrade. Drilled-and-slotted combines both.

Which DOT brake fluid should I use — DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1?

Accepted Answer

Use what your owner's manual specifies. Most modern cars use DOT 4; many German performance cars and ABS/ESP systems specify DOT 4 LV or DOT 5.1 (higher boiling point). Never mix DOT 5 (silicone) with DOT 3/4/5.1 (glycol). Brake fluid is hygroscopic — replace every 2 years or 40,000 km, whichever is earlier.
