Brake Fluid
Brake fluid is the cheapest part of your braking system and the one most often ignored. This page explains the real difference between DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1, how often to change it in Indian conditions, and what it costs. Genuine sealed fluid from ATE, Bosch, Liqui Moly, Textar, Motul and ROWE — same-day in Bangalore, prepaid courier across India.

| Specification | DOT 3 | DOT 4 | DOT 5.1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base chemistry | Glycol ether | Glycol ether + borate ester | Glycol ether (NOT silicone) |
| Dry boiling point | 205 °C minimum | 230 °C minimum (LV grades 260 °C+) | 260 °C minimum |
| Wet boiling point | 140 °C minimum | 155 °C minimum | 180 °C minimum |
| Viscosity | Higher (thicker when cold) | Medium — DOT 4 LV is low-viscosity for ABS/ESP | Lowest — fastest ABS/ESP response in cold starts |
| Best suited to | Older hatchbacks and sedans without ABS/ESP, light city use | Almost every modern car sold in India — ABS, ESP, turbo petrols, diesels, SUVs | Performance cars, AMG / M / RS, heavy SUVs, hill driving, spirited highway use |
| Change interval | Every 2 years or 40,000 km | Every 2 years or 40,000 km (1 year for track use) | Every 1–2 years, or annually if driven hard |
| Indicative price | ₹350–₹800 per 500 ml | ₹600–₹1,800 per 1 L | ₹1,200–₹3,500 per 1 L |
Prices are indicative only and vary by brand, pack size and stock. They are not a quotation. Also note DOT 5 (silicone) is a completely different fluid — it must never be mixed with DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1, and it is not suitable for ABS-equipped cars.
City hatchback / sedan, daily commute
Every 2 years or 40,000 km, whichever is earlier.
SUV, MPV or heavy vehicle
Every 2 years — sooner if you regularly load 7 people or tow.
Ghat / hill driving (Nandi, Coorg, Ooty runs)
Every 12–18 months. Repeated long descents cook the fluid.
Performance car (AMG, M, RS, GTI, vRS)
Every 12 months, DOT 4 LV or DOT 5.1 only.
Occasional track day
Fresh fluid before each event, and bleed after.
Car parked for long periods
Still every 2 years — moisture is absorbed even when idle.
Why it matters in India: brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. At around 3% water content the wet boiling point falls close to the temperature the fluid actually reaches under repeated hard braking. That is when the pedal goes soft — usually at the worst possible moment on a descent. Changing fluid is one of the cheapest safety jobs on the car.
We do not dispatch any brake part without first verifying the chassis number against the manufacturer catalogue — this is how we make sure the part that leaves our warehouse is the correct one for your car.
17-character VIN from the windshield base, driver-side door jamb or RC book. Required — variants of the same model can use different brake parts.
For example: Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG (W212), 2014. Tells us which catalogue to check.
Printed on the back-plate of the worn pad or on the disc edge — speeds up cross-reference and pricing.
A WhatsApp photo of the worn pad (back-plate side), disc edge and caliper helps confirm fitment for facelift / imported variants.
Every order is verified against your VIN / chassis number before dispatch, so a wrong-part shipment from our side is extremely rare. In the unlikely event that we ship a part that does not match the chassis number you shared, we will replace it at our cost. The only case where a return is not accepted is if the chassis / engine number itself was given incorrectly at the time of order — please double-check it from your RC book before confirming.
Send us your make, model, year and chassis number and we will confirm the exact grade your car needs, the brand options and the final price. Same-day delivery in Bangalore, prepaid courier across India. All orders are prepaid — no cash on delivery.
