Volkswagen Polo, Virtus & Taigun Suspension — Bangalore Buyer Guide

VW Group MQB-A0 IN cars (Virtus, Taigun, Slavia, Kushaq) share most suspension hardware with the older Polo / Vento. This guide covers the shocks, arms and bushes that actually wear in India.

    TL;DR

Sachs is OE for shocks. Lemförder is OE for arms / links. Meyle HD is the upgrade for arms on Bangalore roads. Bilstein B6 is the enthusiast pick for Polo GT / Virtus GT.

What wears on Polo / Virtus / Taigun in India

The MQB-A0 IN platform (Virtus, Taigun) and the older PQ25 Polo share a lot of architecture. On Bangalore roads we typically see:

    • Front lower-arm rear bush ("dog-bone" / hydro bush) — 60–90,000 km. The famous VW Group failure point.
    • Stabilizer end-links — 50–80,000 km. They click on rough roads.
    • Front struts (Sachs OE) — 80–1,20,000 km.
    • Rear shocks — 90,000+ km on city use.
    • Strut top-mount — 70–1,00,000 km, replace with the strut.

    OE supplier and OES alternatives

Sachs (ZF) supplies the OE shocks and struts on Polo / Virtus / Taigun. Lemförder (ZF) supplies the OE control arms, ball joints, tie-rod ends and stabilizer links. The Sachs / Lemförder boxes on our shelves are the same hardware as the VW Genuine boxes — typically 30–40% less.

Meyle HD is the popular upgrade for the front lower-arm — heavier-duty bush that lasts noticeably longer than OE on broken roads. For owners who want sharper damping (Polo GT, Virtus GT), Bilstein B6 is the established upgrade.

Indicative price bands — Polo / Virtus / Taigun

    Indicative only. Confirm with VIN.

    • Pair of front struts (Sachs OES): ₹14,000–₹22,000.
    • Pair of rear shocks (Sachs OES): ₹8,000–₹14,000.
    • Front lower control arm complete (Lemförder, per side): ₹6,500–₹11,000.
    • Lower-arm bush only (where serviceable, per side): ₹2,200–₹4,500.
    • Meyle HD lower arm (per side): ₹7,500–₹12,500.
    • Stabilizer end-link (per side, Lemförder): ₹1,200–₹2,400.
    • Bilstein B6 front strut pair (Polo GT / Virtus GT): ₹38,000–₹58,000.

Common pitfalls on VW Group MQB-A0 IN

    Three mistakes we routinely see:

    • Replacing the lower-arm with a no-name brand. The hydro bush on these arms is critical for ride and steering feel — only Lemförder, TRW, Meyle or VW Genuine fit correctly. Cheap copies fail in months.
    • Mixing arms across left/right or different brands across an axle. Always replace as a pair, same brand, same part number.
    • Skipping the wheel alignment after arm replacement. Camber and toe both shift; without alignment the front tyres wear inside-edge in 6,000 km.
